What we repackage in Atlanta

Most jobs fall into one of three buckets. Plenty of customers use two of them at once, which is the point of doing it inside a 3PL instead of a standalone co-packer.

Bulk breakdown, kitting and relabeling

This is the bread and butter: pallets in, cases or eaches out, with the right label on every unit. We relabel for lot and batch tracking, build multi-SKU kits, and assemble retail and club displays.

Because the repack line sits inside a working distribution warehouse, finished goods go straight to racking or straight to an outbound order. There is no second truck to a packager and back.

  • Pallet to case to each breakdown, with counts verified at each step
  • Relabeling and over-labeling, including lot, batch, date and UPC changes
  • Kitting and multi-SKU assembly, display and club-pack builds
  • Shrink wrapping, bundling and re-casing to a new pack size
  • Returns inspection, rework and restocking

Liquid, chemical and hazmat repack

Porter is a DOT-registered hazmat handler and EPA-registered, and takes part in the Alliance for Chemical Distribution's Responsible Distribution program. The Atlanta campus has a flame room with foam suppression for flammables and combustibles.

Typical work is drum, tote and IBC transfers, pail filling, and moving packaged chemicals into customer-branded containers. We keep SDS and certificates of analysis with the inventory record so the paperwork travels with the product.

  • Drum, tote and IBC to smaller containers, or container to container
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous liquids and solids
  • Flame room storage for NFPA class 1 and 2 flammables
  • SDS management, COA tracking and expiration warnings in the WMS
  • Hazmat-trained staff, spill containment and PPE programs

Food-grade handling and compliance

The Atlanta food-grade warehouses are GMP certified and audited by the FDA, AIB and SQF under the GFSI scheme, and hold a Georgia Department of Agriculture food sales license. Several of our food and beverage customers send their own quality teams through as well.

For ingredients and finished food, repack happens in that same audited environment with lot control and first-in, first-out rotation. Some ingredients, caffeine for example, count as both food-grade and hazardous at certain concentrations. We are set up for that overlap.

  • AIB GMP and cGMP program, SQF certified to the GFSI standard
  • FDA registered, Georgia Department of Agriculture licensed
  • Lot and expiration tracking, FIFO and FEFO rotation
  • Recall-ready records: who touched what, when, and where it went
  • Frozen, refrigerated and ambient space on the same campus

Four buildings on one Atlanta campus

Porter runs four warehouses within a few hundred yards of each other in the Fulton Industrial district, just off I-20 and inside I-285. Repackaging work is placed in whichever building fits the product: food-grade, hazmat, rail-served bulk or cold storage.

That matters for a repack project because the product usually needs to be stored before and after. Doing both in one place removes a truck move and a second set of receiving paperwork.

How a repackaging project runs

Start dates are mostly set by label and packaging material lead times. If your materials are ready, the line can be set up quickly.

1

Send the spec

Product, current pack, target pack, volumes and any labeling artwork. Photos of the inbound pallet help more than you would think.

2

Get a quote

We price per unit, per pallet or per hour depending on the job, and tell you which one we used and why. Storage before and after is quoted alongside.

3

Inbound and setup

Product arrives at the dock, gets received into the WMS by lot, and the line is set up with your materials. A first-article check happens before the run.

4

Run, count, ship

Finished units are counted, put away or shipped, and you see inventory move in the dashboard. Lot records stay attached for recalls or audits.

Atlanta repackaging questions

It depends on the product, the pack-out, the volume and how much handling each unit needs. A simple relabel is priced very differently from a drum-to-pail transfer of a flammable liquid. Send the spec and we will quote it per unit, per pallet or per hour, and tell you which basis we used. There is no charge for the quote.
Not a fixed one. We have run one-off rework jobs and multi-year programs. Tell us the volume and timing and we will tell you if it is a fit. Very small, one-time jobs sometimes make more sense at a local packager, and we will say so.
Yes, and most customers do. The repack line is inside Porter's Atlanta distribution warehouses, so product can be received, stored, repacked, stored again and shipped on orders without leaving the campus.
The Atlanta food-grade buildings are GMP certified and audited by the FDA, AIB and SQF under the GFSI standard, and hold a Georgia Department of Agriculture food sales license. Customer quality teams audit us too.
Yes. Porter is a US DOT-registered hazmat handler and EPA registered, and participates in the Alliance for Chemical Distribution's Responsible Distribution program. Flammables go in a flame room with foam suppression. We will ask for the SDS before quoting.
Yes. Drum, tote and IBC transfers, pail filling and container-to-container moves for hazardous and non-hazardous liquids. For bulk tanker and ISO tank unloading into packaging, our Savannah facility has the dedicated filling equipment, and we can route product there.
Usually as fast as the labels and packaging materials can arrive, which is the long pole on most projects. If your materials are ready, setup is quick. Rush rework for a retailer chargeback or a recall is something we handle regularly.
